A tide clock is a “user-friendly” version of the tide calendar. One hand tells you immediately where the tide is right now and which direction it’s going. The tide clock is based on the moon cycle, which is 24 hours and 50 minutes. In that time there are 2 high tides and 2 low tides. The average time between the high tides is 12 hours and 25 minutes.
The tide clock is based on the cycle of the moon which is approximately 24 hours and 50 minutes daily. In that time there are 2 high and 2 low tides.
The average time between high and low tide is 6 hours and 13 minutes.
This is called a semi-diurnal tide.
The tide calendar gives you the TIMES of the high and low tides. You do the calculations to determine where your tide is right now!
We simplified the process with one hand!
With battery removed, position the hand on the tide clock with the dial on the back of the mechanism - to high tide -12 o’clock position.
Find your local high tide times by searching USHarbors.com
At the TIME of your high tide, put the battery in. THAT’S IT ! REALLY!
DO NOT ADJUST THE TIDE CLOCK DAILY! The tide cycles will vary daily, but average out over the month.
Coastal tide clocks are designed to be used as an additional instrument to gauge your tides. If an exact tide time is of the essence or if your safety is at risk, please do not rely on this instrument.
